P153: Development and assessment of a hybrid online chemical engineering course

Andrew Greenberg, Daniel Klingenberg (University of Wisconsin – Madison, USA)

As budgets for higher education continue to decrease, there is still the need to educate the same number of students with limited resources.  Many institutions are unable to offer multiple sections of required courses leading some students to extend their time to degree.  One way to combat this problem is the development of hybrid courses where some portion of instruction takes place online.  This presentation will describe a hybrid online transport phenomena course for chemical engineering students.  Also presented will be a comparison of learning gains between students in traditional lecture sections versus those in the hybrid section.
