P202: Teaching and learning chemistry with the SEE-I technique

In their First Year Seminar course, Marian University students begin to learn and apply the Paul and Elder Critical Thinking Model. One of the techniques associated with this model is SEE-I: state, elaborate, exemplify, and illustrate. The critical thinking model and this technique have been integrated into many other courses across campus, including general, organic and biochemistry (GOB), organic chemistry, and biochemistry. Using SEE-I to clarify core concepts helps the students in these courses to examine their own understanding of chemistry. This interactive presentation will discuss how to use SEE-I as a teaching method, as a learning tool, and as an assessment mechanism.
