P214: CER with undergraduates: Advice I would give – some of which I actually follow

Dawn Del Carlo (University of Northern Iowa, USA)

Mentoring undergraduate research in chemistry presents itself with a unique set of challenges. Mentoring undergraduate chemistry education research – with their typically longer project timelines, IRB training and certification, and foreign methodologies  –  compounds these challenges for faculty mentors.  As a faculty mentor at a PUI, I will share the good and the bad experiences working with undergraduates, summarize what I have managed to accomplish as well as highlight what I still struggle to achieve.  Suggestions and advice based off those experiences will be offered as a starting point for those interested in working with undergraduate researchers.
