P219: Teaching the concept of sublimation through the FST SCI demo model

Brittland DeKorver, Christopher Babiarz (University of Wisconsin – Madison, USA), Holly Walter Kerby (Madison Area Technical College, USA)

Fusion Science Theater (FST) is known for its innovative Science Concept Investigation (SCI) Shows, 20-40 minute stage productions which use theater techniques and best practices in science education to teach science concepts. FST has also employed these techniques to create SCI Demos, which teach concepts by integrating popular demonstrations, audience participation, prediction of hypotheses, particulate modeling, and scientific investigation. One such SCI Demo utilizes the popular dry-ice-in-phenolphthalein demonstration to help investigate the phenomenon of sublimation.
