P262: Assessing chemistry education at two-year colleges: Results of the ACS self-study assessment tool pilot

Neil Bastian, Mary Alvarez (Salt Lake Community College, USA), Dwaine Davis (Forsyth Tech, USA), Thomas Jose (Blinn College, USA), Heather Sklenicka (Rochester Community and Technical College, USA)

In response to public interest, a self-study tool was created to facilitate the assessment of chemistry education at two-year colleges. Developed in partnership with the Two-Year College Chemistry Consortium and the Society Committee on Education, the self-study tool supports the evaluation of chemistry education with respect to the ACS Guidelines for Chemistry in Two-Year College Programs. The self-study tool was piloted with seven demographically diverse institutions in Summer 2011.

In this panel discussion, four participants in the pilot will share their experiences with the self-study tool. The impact of the self-study tool on their programs during and after completion of the self-study will also be discussed.
