P389: Palladium catalyzed intramolecular oxidative cyclization reaction: Student participation and novel interpretation of pericyclic reactions - WITHDRAWN

Jayanta Ray (Indian Institute of Technology, India)

We have recently achieved the carbocyclic frame works from bromovinyl aldehydes by sequential use of Ullmann Cross coupling and McMurry coupling reactions. Annulated bromovinyl aldehydes were converted to 5-7 member cyclic ketones by Heck-type reaction. Base catalyzed cyclo condensation of active methylene compounds with bromovinyl aldehydes generated novel substituted benzo derivatives. Shortest synthesis of Cuparene from bromoaldehydes has also been achieved.

The uses of the methodology developed have been explored for the synthesis of bioactive natural and designed molecules. Students were asked to write FMO and interpret thermal and photo chemical reactions of butadiene derivatives and also cyclo addition in presence of ethylene derivatives. Their novel interpretations and queries are very interesting. The mechanistic details will be presented. Students have newer interpretation of pericyclic pathways that will also be presented.
