P556: High school class and laboratory activities: Implementation and assessment

Amanda Zullo (Saranac Lake High School, USA)

This session outlines how to use student-centered activities within the high school classroom. Topics to be addressed will be on how to create an atmosphere where the class and lab activities are accessible and motivating for all classroom learners. A particular focus revolves around cost-effective and everyday resource use within the course. Utilizing well-constructed collection sheets for online student activities and animations, POGIL classroom activities and lab activities that follow the Science Writing Heuristic (SWH) Model, I’ll provide steps to executing instruction of core concepts in a manner that is student and teacher friendly. In order to set your students up for success an outline of assessment techniques that impact student learning as the activities are being completed will also be covered.
