P827: Inverted Classroom model for General Chemistry I at Concordia College Moorhead MN

Darin Ulness (Concordia College, USA)

The Inverted Classroom model has been employed for two years in one section (~50 students) of General Chemistry I at Concordia College, Moorhead, MN. The inverted classroom off-loads much of the passive learning that takes place during a traditional lecture by assigning online videos students watch prior to class. The online videos cover the basic material that would traditionally be presented in a lecture format. This allows for more active learning such as group work, challenge problems, students working at the board, etc. to take place during the class period. This talk will use Concordia College as a case study for the effectiveness of the inverted classroom model in general chemistry. Assessment data for two consecutive years of General Chemistry I will be discussed.
