P913: Metrology in forensic quantitative analysis

Jerry Messman (Stranaska Scientific LLC, USA)

Metrology is becoming an integral part of modern analytical science in its myriad of applied disciplines including forensic science.  Metrology plays a vital infrastructural role in modern analytical laboratories especially for quantitative chemical analysis.  Metrological traceability may be considered a central concept of metrology with its relevance to measurement, calibration, reference materials and methods, and measurement uncertainty.  This paper will describe metrological applications of quantitative forensic analysis and how they can serve as teaching examples in modern analytical chemistry courses.
