S69b: Celebrating Secondary School Chemistry in the Journal of Chemical Education

Organizers: Donald Wink (University of Illinois at Chicago, USA), Greg Rushton (Kennesaw State University, USA)

Presider: Donald Wink (University of Illinois at Chicago, USA)

The Journal of Chemical Education has, since its start 85 years ago, always served the entire community of educators. In the last twenty years additional features, including dedicated secondary education support staff, have been added to the Journal. This enabled it to transform the kinds of materials it provides to the community and to become even more inclusive in terms of the authors involved. This symposium will celebrate that transformation, with particular focus on recognizing the staff who have supported the change. Special recognition will be given to the persons who served as associate editors for secondary school chemistry, Mickey Sarquis, Emory Howell, Erica Jacobsen, Laura Slocum, and Diana Mason along with editors who played an important role in this period, Joe Lagowski and John Moore.

     Introduction 2:00pm-2:05pm
